Camping

"What I like about camping is you can get really dirty.  Either you're all by yourself, so no one else sees you, or everyone you're with is just as dirty as you are, so nobody cares."  ~Anonymous former Boy Scout

On June 24-26 we went camping with friends.  We went to Wasatch Mountain State park which is up near Midway.  Three families (including us) went up on Friday night.   After setting up camp we roasted hot dogs, smores and put the kids to bed (which also meant that I went to bed too.)

After the other families arrived on Saturday we headed down to the visitor center.  There they have a large pond and you can fish for free.  This was really fun.  Ian caught the first fish.  The best part was that each of the kids caught a couple of fish and had the chance to reel them in.  They also had fun wading through the water, sitting in the shade on the grass, and playing on the nearby playground.

One thing about this particular campground is that each campsite was surrounded by thick oak trees.  This provided a lot of privacy, but unfortunately since they aren't very tall, it provided no shade.  It was hot and without the shade canopies provided by our friends, we would have been hot and miserable.

We had a great time around the campfire on Saturday night.  We roasted smores of all kinds and I discovered my favorite is the toasted coconut marshmallow with fudge striped cookies.  Yum!  Sunday morning after a delicious breakfast we drove down Provo canyon and visited Bridal Veil Falls.  It was really pretty and the kids had a good time wading in the icy cold water (Ollie did too!)

The first fish Alyssa caught.

Gotta love the smores and other goodies.

The kids loved sleeping in the tent.

Last year I made this Barbie tent for Alyssa, we didn't have good "poles" for it, but my dad helped us come up with something that worked perfectly!  Alyssa and all her friends had a great time playing that the Barbies were camping.
