Back in July the kids and I went to the cabin for a couple of nights with my parents. Jason was working and came up on Friday after work.
| Beautiful bull moose eating greens down at the beaver pond. |
| Isn't he a cutie? |
| We found this recently downed tree that a beaver got to. We were amazed by all the wood chips around it. |
| Second moose sighting, just out in the meadow in front of the cabin. |
| We drove the motorcycles down to an area we call the "Rangers Pasture". There we found this big puddle filled with tadpoles. The kids had so much fun catching them. |
| Ian, still in his pajamas and wearing the helmet from the motorcycle ride. He also caught one of these nasty little creatures with his bare hands, even when it was trying to pinch him! |
| Third and fourth moose sightings, this was a mother and her calf. So cute. |
| Andrew and Grandpa on the motorcycle. He was so happy. |
One other story I wanted to remember about this cabin trip. Friday night after we went upstairs and started getting into bed, we started hearing this strange moaning/grunting sound outside the window. It almost sounded to me like someone making a fake bear moaning sound. At first I thought I was hearing an actual person outside faking like they were a wild animal. Then I started hearing the cracking of branches as if a wild animal were pushing their way through the bushes. I got a little scared because it almost sounded like a bear scratching and digging at the ground. I hollered down to my dad, who turned on the porch light and went out with a flashlight. Turns out it was the cow moose and her calf, tromping through the bushes over by the outhouse. I have always been nervous going out to the outhouse in the dark, scared of what wildlife might be out there in the dark, but of course I have never seen anything. I'd have to say this is the first time that I remember knowing there was something actually out there.
