As soon as I finished my shopping I picked up the kids and we went to the mall to do some more shopping for someone who is struggling this holiday season. I wanted to do something for someone else this Christmas with the kids so that they can do a little thinking beyond themselves and think of someone else who is in need.
As soon as we finished our mall shopping we came home and packed a backpack with hats, gloves, cameras, and hand warmers as we were meeting Jason's family to ride the train to Salt Lake to see the lights.
Jason's sister Jenni and her husband Jake got on the train at the Ogden station. Jason's parents, sister Andrea and her family and the kids and I all got on at the Roy stop. From there, his brother Mike's family all got on the train at the Clearfield stop. It was very fun to ride to Salt Lake. All the kids were having a great time and it was fun to sit back and visit while someone else did the driving. When we got to Salt Lake we rode Trax over to the Gateway where we ate dinner at the food court. Since Jason works in Salt Lake and his other brother Richard's family was already there for something else they met us there. After dinner we walked over to Temple Square to see the lights.
It was a beautiful night. It wasn't really very crowded as I thought it would be. There is such a magical/peaceful/joyful feeling there and the lights were simply beautiful. It was fun to take on such a grand adventure as this with Jason's family. I love creating memories such as these with our family. Here's some pictures of our evening and our train ride home.
I love this picture of the temple. What a beautiful reflection in the water with the lights on both sides. Beautiful.
Ian was so funny bundled up in the stroller. It didn't last long though, he wanted to walk.
My favorite picture from the night. Our little family in front of the temple and reflecting pool with the nativity behind us.

How fun Mary Lee! That is one thing I have definitely missed over the years...going to see the lights at Temple Square! You'll have to remind me again what Jason does....I thought he worked up around Syracuse/Ogden, not in SLC! Glad you had a good time!
Jason is a graphic/web designer for a company near Big Cottonwood Canyon. He's been there since we lived in Salt Lake. Now he makes the long commute (by car) four days a week (he gets to work from home on Wednesdays.)
Ok, so you went to the lights and blogged about it already? You're amazing. We went to see the lights tonight too. We just got home about a half hour ago. Too funny. I love it there.
Actually, it was yesterday. Amazing, yes. That amazing. No.
Oh, I am so homesick for Utah at Christmas! The pictures are gorgeous, especially the one of the temple and reflecting pool. I love the idea of riding the train too! Sounds like a great night!
